Colorectal Cancer Provider Outreach Program (CRC POP)

The Colorectal Cancer Outreach Program (CRC POP) aims to connect patients to colorectal cancer support resources quickly and conveniently. All patients need to do is Text “COLON” to 484848, and they will be given a link to a master page that details the resources that five major CRC organizations provide. These organizations are the American Cancer Society, Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Fight Colorectal Cancer, Colon Cancer Coalition, and the Colon Cancer Foundation.

“There are so many resources I didn’t even know about! Where do I begin?”

Every colorectal cancer patient’s journey is different in terms of their needs. Thus, by partnering with 5 CRC organizations, the CRC POP intends to give patients the maximum amount of resources that’ll help them every step of the way. Some of the services available include:

More Information

  • You may be overwhelmed with all the information your doctor just told you. CRC organizations make learning more about colorectal cancer easy and simple.

  • These organizations will lay out the facts and statistics about colorectal cancer, detail the stages and symptoms of colorectal cancer, and include information about different treatment options that are available.

  • Many of these organizations have free PDFs available on their website, making it easy for you to learn more about your condition, or to help your family and loved ones better understand what colorectal cancer is.

Financial Assistance

  • Let’s face it: cancer treatment is expensive. Transportation to and from treatment, medications, and doctor visits can all add up. Luckily, many CRC organizations have programs that provide financial assistance to those in need.

  • Check out each organization’s financial assistance programs. Their requirements may vary, but if you qualify, they can greatly relieve the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis. Additionally, these nonprofits know a lot about other external financial programs available, which they helpfully list on their website.

Support Lines

  • Helplines are a great way to get instant answers to your questions, connected to resources and services, or just have somebody listen to your concerns.
  • If you are overwhelmed with the number of support resources an organization provides, calling a helpline is a great place to start. Somebody on the phone can help identify your greatest needs and connect you to the services that best fit what you need.

  • Many of these helplines are available 24/7 and can be bilingual.

Patient and Family Support Groups

  • If you or your loved ones receive a colorectal cancer diagnosis, it can be incredibly emotionally devastating. During these difficult times, finding support among other survivors can be incredibly helpful in reminding you that you are not alone.

  • CRC organizations have online networks or in-person support groups available, whether you are starting your journey or navigating survivorship.

  • These groups are a great source of information and emotional support

Community Awareness Events

  • Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the US and is the third most common cancer in men and women. Thus, awareness and fundraising for more colorectal cancer are crucial.

  • CRC organizations make it easy for you to create your own local fundraiser or community event to raise awareness for colorectal cancer in your community.

It is crucial to spread awareness of these valuable resources to colorectal cancer patients, which is exactly what the CRC POP intends to do. The CRC POP is a national-level program, aimed to help GI providers and associates connect newly-diagnosed patients to these organizations at the time of diagnosis. This program intends to reach the ~14,000 Gastroenterologists and ~3,000 Colorectal Surgeons in America.
